| New York City has some fabulous
fishing around its five boroughs. Unfortunately many of these
waters have strong currents and are thoroughfares for large
ships. Both of these factors makes them poor choices for a kayak
fishing. However one particular area in the shadow of JFK International
Airport is different. Its Jamaica Bay and its perfect for kayak
fishing. Its also easy to get to with 24 hour parking! Very
easy to get to just get off at Cross Bay Blvd on the Belt and
head toward the water (south), after you cross first bridge
the parking lot is on the left.
There's shallow flats, sedge islands, and nearby deep water
with fast drop offs. You can fish from your yak or wade the
flats and also access the drops.
The fishing grounds are only a short paddle away. Its an
early season hotspot for stripers and tiderunner weakfish.
Blues make an early appearance and then spend the summer.
Fluke call its water's home too. |
