| Little Neck, Bay is a great area to fish
and is perfect for a kayak. The whole bay isn't more than
10 feet deep anywhere. Its shallow water's warm early in the
Spring making it one of the areas where stripers make their
first appearance in the region. During the summer months the
bay always holds bait and Blues and Bass are always close
by. A short paddle will put you in the back of the bay where
its very shallow and it seems to be where a lot of best fishing
takes place.
The directions below are to park on other side of Cross Island
Parkway and wheel your kayak over the overpass, however before
May 10th (best time to fish here anyway) you can park right
next to the ramp, which is off the Pkwy in the parking lot
for the marina. DATES CAN CHANGE-SO ASK BECAUSE IF THINGS
HAVE CHANGED YOU WILL BE TOWED! ! There is a nice boat ramp
to launch from, but it does not see much action from boats
because of the shallow water near it. If you paddle straight
across to the opposite side of bay from ramp you'll find some
great fishing along the shoreline. I always troll around until
I locate the fish and then I work that are a, this technique
has worked for me in past. DIRECTIONS: From the Bronx, take
either the Whitestone or Throngs Neck Bridge to the "Cross
Island Parkway - SOUTH" ... coming from Long Island,
take "Cross Island Parkway - NORTH. " Get off at
"NORTHERN BLVD. - WEST" and continue about 112 mile
to BELL BLVD. make a RIGHT (NORTH) on Bell and continue to
28th Ave. turn RIGHI' (EAST) to the end. WATCH THE SIGNS there
is plenty of parking, but not the last 100 feet or so. Parking
rules are plainly marked and rigorously enforced. Just park
and walk over the footbridge. |
