| DIRECTIONS: New England Thruway
(I-95) to Exit 19 OR Hutchinson River Parkway to 287 East to
New England Thruway (I-95) South to Exit 19 Follow Playland
Parkway directly into the park.
After Paying the parking fee you will head to the back of
the parking lot and then to the right where you will see a
little road with the lake on your left. Follow this until
you see signs for kayak rentals and launching. During the
warmer months you can rent kayaks there from Greg who is a
great guy and also a fisherman. You can get in touch with
him at 914 665-1966 or 914-921-3437 (seasonal). This is a
great way to go kayak fishing. Since there are rentals you
can bring a friend or a child along, Greg has kayaks setup
for the little one.
Please remember that you should check with Rye Playland for
their hours as they do change frequently. Call the general
info number for the park at 914-813-7010.
THE FISHING: Rye Playland located on the long Island South
has been a favorite spot for fisherman looking for Striped
Bass and Blackfish for years. It is extremely kayak friendly.
You won't have any problem locating structure. Pay particular
attention to the long set of rocks that parallel the shoreline
as you head south of the launch. A mile and half paddle north
will put you at Portchester Harbor, a great summer time spot
for Bluefish. I prefer the area to the south as I feel that
it has more structure and better fishing opportunities. I
think this area might peak in the June and July but anytime
the bait is here the place can be great. |
