Shrewsbury River NJ

Great spot with excellent launch ramps.

The Shrewsbury River, which basically acts like a bay, is a great area to kayak fish. We have marked 2 launch ramps which will allow you to access the upper and middle sections of the River. They aren't far apart and would lend themselves well to shuffle trips. Hotspots are the Fort Monrnouth area and Little Silver Creek By utilizing either an outgoing or incoming tide a trip between the two launch sites is very doable. This would give access to the Sedge Island area as well. The bay part of the River runs west to east. When it reaches the sedge islands it makes a 90 degree tum and heads north. On its way northward it passes the Navesink River and its volume is added to the river. The flow is substantial and not extreme caution should be exercised should you decide to access this part of the river. The river will take you to Sandy Hook where one could have a vehicle waiting at the windsurf launch (see Rarit an Bay east for details).

Directions: To get to the launch sites use either exit 109 or 105 from the Garden State Parkway and then follow the maps. You can also go to sites like www.Mapquest.com to print out your own maps. To get satellite images go to www.terraserver.com.
